Ecuadorian Quechua Classes (Kichwa)
About the Program
Learning Kichwa at EIL Ecuador is a unique opportunity to connect with the rich Ecuadorian indigenous culture, understand ancestral traditions, strengthen ties with local communities, and enrich your intercultural learning experience
Kuntisuyo ricuykunawan kichwa shimita yachakupaychi!
Learn the Kichwa language and gain an understanding of the cosmovision of the Andean world!
Kichwa is a variety of Peruvian Quechua; They are the most widely spoken indigenous languages in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The Kichwa of Ecuador is alive throughout the Andean lands and in the Amazon and, although there are dialectal variations, it is not an obstacle for the different groups to understand and communicate with each other.
The EIL Ecuador Language Center has created an interactive, highly communicative method; We have developed it focused on two areas: a functional linguistic communication system, and historical-cultural contents belonging to the Kichwa people. Stories, legends, songs and poems will give you an integral vision of how Ecuadorian indigenous people speak and feel.
Yes! This is a proposal that suits you.
Our native-speaking teachers will respond to your needs and concerns.
“Alli punlla tiu-tiakuna”… We will start with the greetings, the phrases of daily communication, vocabulary and structures to talk about life, work, today, yesterday and tomorrow. Then we will study the history, what the Spanish conquest meant, how they tried to acculturate the “runa” in a different system, in which the “Pacha Mama” no longer received the veneration that corresponds to it as a provider of life. We will analyze the ancestral traditions and customs, the struggles to achieve respect and recognition, the conservation of the indigenous identity through time, the current achievements, the entry of the indigenous movements into the life and politics of Ecuador, what are their goals and the road that still remains to be traveled.
We offer the possibility of having the individual class online. Thanks to the latest technology in computer systems and programs, you will be able to attend your online class with the same personalized attention as in face-to-face classes. EIL Ecuador has created a methodology adapted to virtual classes so that you can practice all language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Our Language Center is strategically located in a residential area of Quito, in the EIL Building, and has pedagogical classrooms, a library, a large meeting room, a cafeteria, and a spacious terrace. Two blocks from the center, you can get public transportation to any part of the city.
