Linguistic training for English teachers in public educational units, sponsored by the United States Embassy within the framework of its cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education of Ecuador.

About the Program
EIL Ecuador has been implementing the "Ecuador Habla Inglés" program since 2020, sponsored by the Embassy of the United States and the Ministry of Education. Its goal is to strengthen the language skills of public sector English teachers.
Since 2020, EIL Ecuador has implemented the Ecuador Habla Inglés, sponsored by the United States Embassy in Ecuador under the cooperation agreement it maintains with the Ministry of Education of Ecuador.
The goal of this program is to contribute to the quality of English language teaching in the country by strengthening the language skills and competencies of public sector English teachers who are part of the Ministry of Education.
The courses are designed and supervised by EIL Ecuador and implemented by leading public sector teachers trained by EIL Ecuador through the SIT Best Practices in TESOL course SIT Best Practices in TESOL, making use of the local expertise of the network of leading teachers created through various programs sponsored by the United States Embassy. The program’s training teachers demonstrate student-centered and effective teaching methods for the Ecuadorian context through their teaching to other teachers in the program.
Since October 2022, Ecuador Habla Inglés has welcomed participants from all regions and provinces of the country. The program maintains approximately 1,100 participants enrolled in each class cycle and offers eight possible levels of English study. More than 2,300 English teachers have been trained, with an estimated impact on over 460,000 public sector students. The program aims to expand as long as there is demand from participants and availability of funds.

The requirements to be part of the “Ecuador Habla Inglés” program are:
- Be an English teacher from the Ministry of Education
- Have not yet reached a B2 CEFR level in English
- Have access to suitable internet for synchronous virtual study
- Ecuador Habla Inglés program operates in academic cycles that last for 6 months, with classes held from Monday to Thursday for one hour each.
- We have a schedule from 9:00 to 10:00 AM and one from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
Both scheduled classes and follow-up activities within the Ecuador Speaks English program are exclusively conducted virtually since our participants come from all corners of Ecuador. Classes are conducted via ZOOM.
Ecuador Habla Inglés has been offering academic levels ranging from the lowest levels, such as A1, to high levels like B2.2. However, the opening of all levels is subject to change with each call and, of course, to the availability of funds.
FAQs
People who cannot register using the link we share in each call are not part of the teaching professional base. If you cannot enter through the registration link, you can scan your updated teaching contract, along with your ID or a work certificate indicating that you are an English teacher and the number of teaching hours you provide. All of this is sent to the email indicated at the end of the completed form. We do not accept any documentation outside of the call, as we do not reserve spaces, and once the call is closed, we do not accept documentation out of date.
We do not guarantee that your profile will be approved to participate in Ecuador Speaks English, as all documentation is sent to the Ministry of Education for the relevant review. If the documentation sent is found to be falsified, you could have legal issues with that institution. In addition, review times can take days, and you may not be able to join during the call.
No, at no stage of the program is it guaranteed that you will secure a spot to study English in our program. This is because we have many participants on the waiting list, and spaces are not always available in all the available levels. Participants must be patient and wait to be contacted via email. If you do not receive an email from us by the end of the call, it is most likely that you did not obtain a spot and will need to reapply in the next round.
At the end of each program cycle, the Ministry of Education provides a certificate of 80 hours of training.
We, in cooperation with the Ministry, offer a certificate of 80 hours of training in the English language at the end of each cycle. The opportunity to take a B2 exam is subject to funding from the Embassy and is only offered to our participants who have graduated from the highest level, which is B2.2. However, it should be noted that this is subject to various internal program policies and the availability of funds. Therefore, it is not a guarantee of the program that you can take an official B2 language exam.
Yes, the program is very strict and academically demanding. We conduct mid-term and final exams. We also require the submission of assignments, participation in sessions, and an attendance of over 80% in classes during the 6 months. Additionally, we have external evaluators of the program’s educational level, and we take diagnostic tests every 6 months to assess your progress.
No, the English cycles are completely free.
All individuals who do not wish to continue with the course can withdraw without any penalties. However, it is requested that you notify the Administrative Coordination to record your departure.
Yes, the Administrative Coordination closely monitors students, and those who are absent or failing to comply with the regulations may be deactivated at any time, following a formal notification via email. Therefore, you may lose your spot.
