SIT TESOL CERTIFICATE COURSE
(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
What is the SIT TESOL Course?
The SIT TESOL certificate course is an intensive, hands-on teacher training course, resulting in an internationally recognized certification for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Participants join a small team of colleagues and trainers in workshops and observed teaching practice with real students. It´s a competency-based course, meaning that all graduates possess the skills required to effectively plan, teach, and reflect on learning-centered language classes.
The course is designed, accredited, and constantly monitored by the prestigious U.S.-based School for International Training´s Graduate Institute, a pioneer in TESOL, experiential learning, and reflective practice. The School for International Training is a program of World Learning, the international non-profit organization for intercultural exchange and development, and is closely linked to the Federation of the Experiment in International Living.
Where and when is it offered?
SIT TESOL courses are offered at several locations around the world. The EIL Ecuador courses take place at our premises in north central Quito. We have been offering the SIT TESOL certificate course since 2006 and are the only location in South America where it is available.
Upcoming course dates:
January 5 – February 2, 2018

June 22 – July 20, 2018
Who takes the SIT TESOL course?
Our TESOL participants are motivated individuals interested in launching a career in English Language teaching or taking their current practice to the next level. Many graduates go on to teach in language institutes, other adult education programs, or international schools.
Participants may be native or highly proficient non-native speakers; our courses have included participants from nearly every part of the world. SIT TESOL participants are distinguished by their love of language-learning, their willingness to try new things, and their ability to be self-reflective and thoughtful members of a collaborative team.
Why choose the SIT TESOL certificate?
Professional value: The internationally-known School for International Training name and philosophy back up both the program we offer and the credentials our graduates receive. Designed to impart the essential principles and skills of SIT´s prestigious Master´s in TESOL, the course is taught by SIT-trained professionals and is continually assessed to uphold those standards.
Individual attention: Most of our courses are very small, with just 5 or 6 participants, and all guarantee a 6:1 participant trainer ratio. Trainers work with you full-time, every day, and are deeply committed to ensuring that every participant is respected, supported, and successful.
Pedagogical integrity: The best lessons are learned by experience, and participants experience the highest standards of pedagogy in every aspect of the course. We encourage participants to teach active, learner-centered, skill-based classes—and that´s the way we teach our course. You´ll never hear our trainers say, ¨Do as I say, not as I do.¨
Lifelong learning: You´ll gain practical tools you can immediately put to use in the classroom, but it doesn´t end there. Teaching is a demanding, constantly changing profession, and the SIT focus on experiential learning and reflective practice prepares you to adapt and experiment, wherever your professional journey takes you.

Both TESOL and TEFL refer to professions or professional certificates: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or Teaching English as a Foreign Language. We use the term TESOL to refer to our certificate course for teachers. TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, is an exam used to demonstrate proficiency in English for academic purposes.
