Myriam Flor, our Incoming Programs Director, joined a student group from Dayton University during their annual Study Travel program in Ecuador. Students were introduced to the historical city of Quito, enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Otavalo Indian craft market, biking and trekking in Baños, homestays and volunteer work in Riobamba, a climb up snow-capped Mt. Chimborazo and a horseback ride in the foothills of Mt. Tungurahua. "I love working with the Dayton groups" says Myriam "because they´re so enthusiastic and fun to be with. They´re very flexible too, love the homestays and interacting with the children through volunteer work."
Written evaluations by the students at the end of the program showed that they were enthusiastic about their experiences. A few examples: "It was the best 10 days of my life"; "I loved everything we did - it surpassed my expectations greatly"; "I learned the importance of understanding other cultures"; "Ecuador is an amazing country"; "the volunteering was great..I got to interact with children that I would have never met otherwise."
As always EIL Ecuador looks forward to hosting another Dayton group in 2010 and for many years after! |
